Electrician II **Bargaining Unit Position**- Facilities & Parks **EXTENDED** Overview This posting will close at 5:00PM on the close date. An Individual whose qualifications exceed the minimum qualifications for the job may be hired above the minimum of the range based on full years of related work experience as presented on the application. Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled electrical and electrical maintenance tasks; inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment; performs related work as required. Responsibilities Performs electrical maintenance or construction at county facilities including street intersections, ball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds or swimming pools. Troubleshoots electrical problems, splices wires, repairs electrical fixtures and sockets, repairs and replaces fuses, magnetic starters and controls. Installs new electrical equipment, repairs and makes new installations on runway, taxiway, airport obstruction lights, traffic signals and street lights; designs electrical control circuits and installs electrical wiring; draws electrical control diagrams. Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and emergency backup systems. Installs and maintains electrical instrumentation equipment, installs computer cabling and telephone and mode wiring, if required; marks and locates underground electrical utilities. Performs electrical inspections, identifies equipment and material needs for projects, requisitioning needed supplies, maintain records of time spent on projects and materials used, prepares reports of completed work and materials used. An Electrician II must be willing to assume the duties of an Electrician I as needed. ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Ensures that work is performed safely and within the guidelines of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and state regulations. Performs related incidental duties contributing to the realization of unit or team objectives as required, which include substituting for supervisor, coworkers or subordinates as qualified and within authorized limits by carrying out specified functions to maintain continuity of ordinary operations, if delegated; provides designated support for projects or activities overseen by higher graded non-supervisory personnel as instructed; explains and demonstrates work performed to assist supervisor in orientating and training less knowledgeable employees; engages in assignments pertaining to function of other positions for training purposes under close supervision; logs activities, and prepares and submits recruiting or special status reports; keeps tools, equipment and work area orderly, safe and clean. Other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education . High school diploma or GED Experience. Four (4) years full-time experience in the field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County Policy. Licenses/Certifications. Must have a valid Class D driver's license if maintaining multiple locations. Must possess the State of New Mexico Journeyman Electrician License. Periodic safety training will be available to meet OSHA requirements and Doña Ana County policies. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Background check and driver's license record; Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Must have knowledge of electrical principles, theory and construction techniques; electronic theory and applications; National Electrical Code; high and low voltage systems, electric power plants and electric motors; the knowledge to install, trouble shoot, repair, and operate electronic equipment and related circuitry; the various equipment, tools, materials, methods and techniques of the trade; occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; and understand the proper and safe use of a variety of electrical supplies, tools, equipment, and machines.
