It offers a B.S. degree in Statistics, a Ph.D. degree in Statistical Science, and two M.S. degrees: Statistical Science and Biostatistics, as well as the Concentration in Statistical Data Science within the MS Statistical Science. Though a relatively young department founded in 1992, the department has demonstrated rapid growth in research and scholarship. The faculty is renowned with leaders in statistics, biostatistics, data science, and AI, with national and international credentials. It engages in research with leading corporations and government agencies, such as the INOVA Health, one of the leading hospitals in the nation. The department has a distinct potential for innovations in statistics, data science, and interdisciplinary research spanning medicine, engineering, economics, technology, and society.Situated on the beautiful Fairfax, VA campus in the high-tech corridor of Northern Virginia, the department is conveniently located 30 minutes from both downtown Washington, D.C. and Dulles International Airport, with top-ranked high schools in the country and easy access to engineering and computing departments within the College of Engineering and Computing, as well as other colleges. For additional information about the department, please visit http://stat.gmu.edu/.About the Position:Adjunct faculty are expected to teach one or two undergraduate or graduate courses in Statistics at our Fairfax or Arlington campus. Expertise in all areas of Statistics and Data Science is considered.Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.Responsibilities: * Prepare and teach assigned courses at assigned or negotiated class meetings, based on course catalog descriptions and approved course outlines; * Prepare and objectively grade class assignments and exams within a timely manner, in accordance with course outcomes; * Maintain accurate, transparent student records; * Assist and foster student success through the maintenance of regularly scheduled office hours and timely responses to e-mail inquiries; * Adhere to all administrative university policies such as the timely submission of completed midterm and final grades; * Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current in assigned courses; * Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; and * Perform other duties as assigned by contract and/or by the chair or associate chair including assessing course(s) taught for continuous improvement. Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field before the start of this position; * Strong oral and written communication skills; and * In exceptional cases, Master's in Statistics or Biostatistics may be acceptable when combined with successful teaching experience. Preferred Qualifications: * Teaching experience at the college-level; * Skills or experience with evolving technology; * Teaching and/or professional expertise in data science or modern statistics; and * Experience with a learning management system.
