What Does a Highway Maintenance Operator Do? With instructions from the General Foreperson, the Highway Maintenance Operators will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure, so it meets the performance requirements of the Ministry Directed Maintenance Contract (MDMC). This could include, but is not limited to, physically demanding duties such as pothole repairs, installing small signs, repairs to end treatments, and debris removal. Duties may also include assisting the emergency response operators and MTO patrollers on the highway by responding to incidents and working with OPP, Toronto Fire, and EMS, ensuring the safety of the travelling public. You may be required to operate a loader, crash truck, sign truck, and participate in winter operations as an equipment operator. As a Highway Maintenance Operator, You Will: Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and ensure contractual HSE obligations for the staff and public are met Make repairs to the highway, including but not limited to, potholes, installing small signs, end treatments, guiderails, washing bridges, sweeping, grass cutting, etc. Become familiar with performance requirements of a MDMC.
